THE CHALLENGE
The biggest challenge was to create a story about loneliness that not only conveys the emotion, but also has an impact. How do you translate an abstract feeling, such as loneliness, into a visual and emotional story that touches people and makes them reflect? It was essential to find a balance between the oppressive reality of loneliness and the message of hope and connection that we wanted to convey.
THE IDEA
The idea was to translate the abstract experience of loneliness into three recognizable, yet charged situations: being alone at home, lying awake in bed and looking out the window at others having fun. These moments are recognizable to many people, but show the pain of isolation and the feeling of loss behind the scenes. By focusing on the emotions that these moments evoke, the emptiness of an empty room, the silence in bed and the longing for connection while others laugh, we wanted to convey the feeling of loneliness in a subtle and powerful way, so that the viewer can feel for themselves what it means to be alone.
